This was my first vintage machine. I had been reading sewing lists and was intrigued by all of the talk of the wonderful straight stitch made by the old black Singers. I set out to find one--a free one, if possible!
I literally stumbled over this one at a church yard sale. It was in a tacky green plastic case that no one had even opened. Best of all, it was marked $15.00. After a little bargaining, I excitedly took it home for $10!
I thought she was a real bargain at $10. Then I found out a few things about old sewing machines . . . . . . you need a manual, attachments, accessories, rewiring, light bulbs, etc. etc. ad infinitum. Thanks to my local Singer store and some kind folks I've met on the web, she now has everything she needs (maybe).
Now that she's got all of the bits and pieces, her final cost is somewhere around $150! But she's still a bargain! This is the best-stitching machine I own, and I've got several.
