Desk for hand crank

I first got the idea from Faeb's page (which I can no longer find). On her "Vintage Sew Machines" page, she had a picture of one of those school desks that we used to sit in. Except she had a sewing machine (a model 66, if I remember correctly) mounted on it instead of a notepad! Since my 99 handcrank was a little hard to use in its original wooden case, I had been looking for a way to make it more usable. When I saw Faeb's picture, I emailed her for advice, and she very kindly gave it.

I remembered that my in-laws had one of these old desks in their basement that they did not need. To make a long story short, my Father-in-law (Bob) was able to fix it right up for me! Here's a picture of the machine mounted on the desk. It's not really mounted, I suppose. It just sits on top. This makes it very easy to lift out and take somewhere else.

You can see that the hole is shaped to fit the bottom of the machine. Bob said he started with a rectangle of the approximate dimensions of the sewing machine, then shaped it to fit.
