Vickers Modele de Luxe

Manufactured: c.1920s, Great Britain
Bobbins: Long
Feed:
Feet: Low shank

The Vickers came from the same antique mall where I found both my Standards. In fact, I found it on the same day as the c.1889 one. I was so excited to find *two* machines at the same place that I wanted. The Vickers came with only one bobbin and one foot, but, wonder-of-wonders, it had the manual and key with it. Despite the fact that the key was hanging by a string from the handle of the case, someone had broken the lock. :{

According to a couple of sources, the Vickers was made by a company who made armaments between WWI and WWII. It seems that they started making sewing machines after WWI ended and sold the sewing machine works after WWII began. If you want to know more about Vickers, see Alan Quinn's excellent site. I also found some information in Charles Law's encyclopedia, I believe.

This is a gorgeous little machine, once you get past the scary-looking bobbin winder. It works smoothly and is enjoyable to sew with.
